Setting Visit – Overall Assessment
Challenge
The setting, and management want to check that they are meeting standards or want ideas and suggestions on how to take the setting to the next level. They want real- life practical suggestions on how their setting can improve as well as finding out what they are currently doing well. The EYFS is huge and incorporates lots of different guidelines and they want an overall assessment to ensure they are meeting the standards.

Action
On the phone call before visiting the management and I discussed areas for me to focus on as a priority. I came out and chatted to the staff team, heard about policies and procedures and saw the daily routine and environment working. I observed children, staff interactions, activities and chatted to staff and children throughout the day. I observed and made notes on what I saw and heard. I visited every area of the setting and tried to observe as much of the different routines as possible (as well as the transition times between routines). I spent time in the outdoor environment and inside and got a good understanding of the setting as a whole and in more detailed areas.

Outcome
In my report I outlined what areas of the day and provision I had been very impressed by. I explain what I had spoken to the staff team about and how they showed (or didn’t show) an understanding of policies and procedures, curriculums and knowledge of the children. In my report I also highlight areas of the provision, curriculum or environment that could be improved based on the EYFS. The report was shared by the management team with the staff team and the parents/carers. This helped their own self-reflection, and the parents / carers could see what they were going to be working on next and that they were taking improvement very seriously.
