Outdoor Play and Education
I am passionate about outdoor play and education. I believe children should have the opportunity to create, learn and enjoy as much outdoor play as possible. I developed a huge outdoor area at my Kindergarten on a small budget, and this dramatically improved the outcomes for the children.
Challenge
Staff need inspiration on how to enhance the outdoor environment and maximize the learning potential that playing outside can bring. Maybe the outdoor environment has not been improved in a while and the setting is looking at ways to improve it. Staff need ideas and inspiration on how to implement all areas of the EYFS in the outdoor areas.

Action
On my visit I observed the children in the setting and outside in the outdoor area. I could see what was working well and how the outdoor environment was being used throughout the day. I could identify areas that could be improved or areas of the EYFS that could be promoted in the outdoor environment. I spoke to the staff team about the importance of nature and being outdoors and gave them some tips and suggestions on how best to encourage a love of outdoor play.

Outcome
The setting used my advice and guidance to create an action plan for the outdoor environment. The staff team are more inspired and are making suggestions of their own on areas to improve. The children’s views and observations are also having an impact on the provision and the outdoor environment is being used more effectively.
